Addiction to cortisone was the subject of the 1956 motion picture, Bigger Than Life , produced by and starring James Mason . Though it was a box-office flop upon its initial release, many modern critics hail it as a masterpiece and brilliant indictment of contemporary attitudes towards mental illness and addiction. In 1963, Jean-Luc Godard named it one of the ten best American sound films ever made. John F. Kennedy needed to regularly use corticosteroids such as cortisone as a treatment for Addison's disease .
Results This study included 19 420 children (% male; largest proportion of children, %, were aged 6-9 years at their index date). The multivariable regression results did not show a significant association between first fracture after asthma diagnosis and current use (OR, ; 95% CI, -), recent use (OR, ; 95% CI, -), or past use (OR, ; 95% CI, -) of inhaled corticosteroids, compared with no use, while adjusting for sociodemographic factors and other medication use. However, use of systemic corticosteroids in the 1-year lookback period resulted in greater odds of fracture (OR, ; 95% CI, -).
In an embryofetal development study in pregnant rabbits, beclomethasone dipropionate administration during organogenesis from gestation days 7 to 16 at subcutaneous doses equal to and greater than times the MRHDID in adults (on a mg/m 2 basis at maternal doses of mg/kg/day and higher) produced external and skeletal malformations and embryolethal effects (increased fetal resorptions). There were no effects in fetuses of pregnant rabbits administered a subcutaneous dose times the MRHDID in adults (on a mg/m 2 basis at a maternal dose of mg/kg/day).
